ABOUT
Megan and Peder connected in the summer of 2020 around their shared vision of bringing non-alcoholic products into the market. Both non-drinkers, they realized a gap in the market for a food friendly sipper that is free from added sugar, safe for pregnancy, clean label, caffeine free, and tasted damn good. So, rather than waiting for someone else to make it first, they joined forces to utilize their respective skills to create Dry Wit. We launched in January 2023 and are currently found around the Twin Cities metro region, with humble plans for eventual expansion.
Megan studied, taught and practiced architectural design in her earlier life. Through two fabulous kids, diagnoses of multiple sclerosis and breast cancer, and the death of her equally fabulous husband, Megan realized that she needed to permanently break up with alcohol. She realized that alcohol was going to get her before too long. By get her” we mean, end her life prematurely. So she quit drinking any alcohol in 2017. Having ended her unhealthy love affair with booze, she realized that she cared possibly more about what was being served in the glass than what was being served on the plate at the dining table. She found the options for temperance pairings for fine dining at that time to be unimaginative, laden with sugar, still carrying dangerously high (at least for Megan) amounts of alcohol, and just plain bad. So she started a company called Dry Wit with a great looking name and logo, but no recipes to speak of.
At about the same time, Peder was acting as the General Manager and Spirits Director at the fabulously chic and inventive Marvel Bar in Minneapolis. Like Megan, Peder was redesigning his relationship with alcohol. He and Marvel Bar’s owner agreed to remove all the alcohol from the back bar as an experiment that paid off.
The Pandemic swept Marvel Bar away, along with so many other service opportunities. It is at this point that Peder and Megan began designing what was actually to become Drywit. This was a very enjoyable time collecting and defining the guiding principles of Dry Wit. Dry Wit is served from a wine bottle to maximize the sharing potential and enhance the ritualisitic power of sharing a bottle with dinner. Dry Wit does not have added sugar or caffeine or anything else that a pregnant woman would not want to drink. (Peder and his partner were expecting their first child at the time.). There would be, at the outset at least, three types of drinks. One to act as a stand-in for a champagne toast; a second to fill the place of a full-bodied white wine: and a third as a stand-in for red wine. All three Dry Wits were built around filling the void that removing wine left at the dining table.
Pippi, Salinger and Bruce were born! Drywit launched in Dry January of 2023. We make, bottle, label and package Drywit in a wonderful shared space in Minneapolis. We want to grow Dry Wit. Inclusive hospitality is a mission for Dry Wit; we want to provide a complex, delicious, non alcoholic wine alternative to be shared with good food and good company.
